Nestled
in the backdrop of the mighty western ghats lies Thusharagiri,
a place of immense beauty and that offers one of the
most spectacular sights in Kerala. Affectionately
called the "kodaikkanal" of the South, Thusharagiri
with its spell binding waterfalls provides an exhilarating
and spell binding sight to the visitor and is at a
distance of 55 kms from Calicut , the land of the
Zamorins. Tusharagiri showcases the magnificent fusion
and close bond between land and water. Literally meaning
snow capped mountains, Thusharagi, with the presence
of three majestic waterfalls is the ideal destination
to unwind your spirits and spend a nostalgic holiday;
holidays one is sure to treasure fondly for the rest
of the life.
The
period from September to November is the ideal time
to view and enjoy this magnificent sight . The highest
of the three waterfalls, Thenpara at Kodencherry falls
from a height of 75 metres and the area around this
waterfall is a trekkers delight with coconut, arecanut,
pepper and other spices dotting the landscape. There
are two other equally majestic waterfalls and a visit
to Vythiri and Waynad through the dense forests is
sure to thrill and mesmerize the holiday seeker .Identified
as an eco tourism centre by the Government of Kerala,
it is one of the most popular destinations for trekking
and rock climbing, Tusharagiri is easily accessible
and frequent buses ply from Calicut.
